Airway Metagenomes from People with Cystic Fibrosis in South Australia

This study comprises 127 respiratory specimens (sputum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid) collected from 64 individuals with cystic fibrosis receiving clinical care in South Australia. DNA was extracted and subjected to shotgun metagenomic sequencing using both MGI and Oxford Nanopore Technologies platforms. The dataset captures diverse clinical states, including stable periods, antimicrobial exposure, pulmonary exacerbations, and varying lung-function metrics. The study aims to characterise taxonomic and functional diversity, pathogen dynamics—including early detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa—and the ecological structure of CF airway microbiomes.
