Modern Aboriginal Australians

Thank you for your enquiry regarding access to the data reported in our publication Wright et al “Ancient nuclear genomes enable repatriation of Indigenous human remains”, Sci. Adv. 2018;4: eaau5064 Those who agreed to supply samples for this work were advised in 'The peopling of Australia INFORMATION SHEET' (Available in Supplementary Information of in Malaspinas, ... Lambert, D.M.,Willerslev, E. 2016. The genomic history of Australia. Nature: doi:10.1038/nature1829) that: "The resulting de-identified data are available for researchers wishing to verify the results of this study only with an ethics approval. Any other research will have to be approved first by you [the person providing the sample], then by the research team and an appropriate ethics committee". Hence, we would ask you to indicate first if you are requesting the sequence data in order to verify the results we reported in Wright et al. In order for Prof Willerslev and I to access this, we ask you to send a detailed proposal which makes this clear. Second, your application will need to be accompanied by a Human Ethics Approval from your institution that is of the same standard as that which was approved for our original study. We will ask the Griffith University Human Ethics Committee to assess your Human Ethics, in that regard. As the above makes clear, should you be wishing to conduct "any other research" the above process will need to be followed. If your enquiry is regarding "any other research", we are happy to provide information on how to proceed. Yours Eske Willerslev David Lambert
