  The Columbia GENIE study contributes and shares phenotype and genotype data for individuals who were treated with our healthcare facilities and consented to share their data with dbGaP for scientific discovery. Some of these individuals have kidney or neurological problems and some are healthy volunteers from the Washington Height patient community. The purpose of this NOMAS study is to obtain information about physical features of the brain, carotid arteries, and heart. Some of our patients are pediatric patients with cardiac conditions. • Investigation of respiratory chain integrity in skeletal muscle in Parkinson's disease

  The aim of this study is to investigate mitochondrial dysfunction in skeletal muscle as a potential biomarker for identifying a distinct subtype of Parkinson’s disease (PD) characterized by mitochondrial complex I (CI) deficiency (CI-PD). Based on previous post-mortem findings, the study hypothesizes that widespread CI deficiency is present in a subset of PD patients and could be detectable in clinically accessible muscle samples. By analyzing mitochondrial function in muscle biopsies from individuals with PD and healthy controls, the study seeks to explore the extent of mitochondrial dysfunction in PD and identify a stratification marker for future diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. This study is part of the STRAT-PARK initiative, a longitudinal cohort study that aims to stratify neurodegenerative parkinsonisms into biological subtypes using a biomarker-based approach (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pneurobio.2024.102603).

• A Genome-Wide Association Study in Patients Experiencing Drug-Induced Long-QT Syndrome and/or Torsades de Pointes; A Collaboration Between the NIH Pharmacogenomics Research Network and the RIKEN Yokohama Institute Center for Genomic Medicine

  The goal of this study was to identify genetic risk factors for drug-induced prolongation of the QT interval (diLQT) and the ventricular arrhythmia torsades de pointes (TdP). We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) focusing on subjects with a history of long QT and/or TdP after taking medication. Controls for this study were individuals with a history of cardiac arrhythmias who had begun treatment with potentially QT-prolonging antiarrhythmics. An additional control group of normal volunteers were given ibutilide, a drug with documented proarrhythmic properties. All study participants were recruited and treated/evaluated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This study was conducted by the Pharmacogenomics of Arrhythmia Therapy subgroup of the Pharmacogenetics Research Network, a nationwide collaboration of scientists studying the genetic contributions to drug response variability. Genotyping was performed by the RIKEN research institute in Japan using the Illumina 610 Quad Beadchip platform.
