• Discovery, Biology, and Risk of Inherited Variants in Breast Cancer (DRIVE) - Genome-Wide Association Study Meta-Analysis

  Discovery, Biology, and Risk of Inherited Variants in Breast Cancer (DRIVE) was one of five projects funded in 2010 as part of the NCI's Genetic Associations and Mechanisms in Oncology (GAME-ON) initiative (http://epi.grants.cancer.gov/gameon/). GAME-ON's overall goal was to foster an intra-disciplinary and collaborative approach to the translation of promising research leads deriving from the initial wave of cancer GWAS. Specific goals included replication of previous GWAS findings and identification of new susceptibility loci through meta analyses of existing GWAS data and fine mapping of identified loci to better pinpoint causal variants; and identify germline variants that are associated with risk of multiple cancers. The other four funded GAME-ON projects were: the ColoRectal TransdisciplinaryStudy (CORECT), Elucidating Loci Involved in Prostate Cancer Susceptibility (ELLIPSE), Follow-up of Ovarian Cancer Genetic Association and Interaction Study (FOCI), and Transdisciplinary Research in Cancer of the Lung (TRICL).   The Anorexia Nervosa Genetics Initiative (ANGI) is an international collaboration that recruited individuals with a lifetime history of anorexia nervosa from the United States (US), Australia/New Zealand (ANZ), Sweden (SE), and Denmark (DK). Matched controls, with no history of eating disorders, were also recruited from the US, SE, and DK. Recruitment avenues included national registers (SE, DK), treatment centers (US, ANZ, SE, DK), and social and traditional media (US, ANZ, SE). Participants provided blood samples and clinical information. Diagnoses were based on DSM-IV or ICD-10 criteria (amenorrhea was not required). • NHLBI TOPMed - NHGRI CCDG: Malmo Preventive Project (MPP)

  The Malmö Preventive Project (MPP) was a community-based disease prevention program including 33,346 inhabitants from the city of Malmö in Southern Sweden. Complete birth cohorts between 1921-1949 were invited, and the participation rate was 71%. Participants underwent screening between 1974 to 1992 for cardiovascular risk factors, alcohol abuse, and breast cancer. Between 2002-2006, surviving participants were invited to a reexamination which included blood sampling from which DNA has been extracted. Subjects with prevalent or incident AF were identified from national registers as previously described, and cases with DNA were then matched in a 1:1 fashion to controls with DNA from the same cohort by sex, age (±1 year), and date of baseline exam (±1 year). Also, controls required a follow-up exceeding that of the corresponding AF case.

As of February 2024, the FEGA network comprises seven European national nodes with tens of additional national partners working towards establishing a FEGA node.   The BAMSE (Swedish abbreviation for Children, Allergy, Milieu, Stockholm, Epidemiology) study is an ongoing longitudinal, population-based prospective birth cohort including 4,089 children born between 1994 and 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden. The cohort was initially designed to study risk factors for asthma, allergic diseases and lung function in childhood, and to study factors of importance for prognosis at already established disease.Questionnaires on respiratory symptoms and medication were answered at age of 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 years. Response rates ranged from 96-82% at each occasion with very minor selection bias over the years. Exposure to air pollutants and other environmental factors has been mapped since birth.At the 8 and 16 year follow-up, spirometry and FeNO measurements were performed and at the latter, impulse oscillometry was measured. Blood samples (including plasma) from around 2,500 children were taken at 4, 8 and 16 years and have been analyzed for different IgE-ab and biomarkers. Genome-wide genetic, global methylation and transcriptomic data exist on a subset of the children.
