  While many genetic and metabolic studies focus on understanding disease states, this genome wide association study (GWAS) was designed to understand the influence of genetic variants on circulating metabolites and factors in normal, healthy individuals. Over 2500 healthy, ethnically Irish college students attending Trinity College Dublin completed a health and diet questionnaire and provided a non-fasting blood sample to be used for genetic and metabolic analysis. The questionnaire was designed to collect information on age, sex, height, weight, medical conditions, smoking, dietary habits, and consumption of alcohol, fortified foods, and supplements. Extracted DNA was genotyped using the Illumina HumanOmni1-Quad Beadchip. Metabolites were measured using a number of methods and focused on those relevant to the folate/vitamin B12 pathway.

  The offspring of first cousin marriages have ~6% of their genome autozygous, i.e. homozygous identical by descent, or even more if there was further consanguinity in their ancestry. In the UK there are large populations with very high first cousin marriage rates of 20-50%. Sequencing the exomes of a sample of these individuals has the potential both to support genetic health programmes in these populations, and to provide genetic research information about rare loss of function mutations. This pilot study based on existing cohort samples from the Born In Bradford study will identify homozygous individuals for almost all variants down to an allele frequency around 1%, plus individuals carrying hundreds of new homozygous rare loss-of-function variants, and will support development of community relations and ethics for a wider study currently being designed. The data deposited in the EGA consist of low coverage whole exome sequencing on these samples. This dataset contains all the data available for this study on 2017-05-11.

Known risk factors for colorectal cancer include smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, and red and processed meat. Furthermore, although it has been suggested that changes in the intestinal environment due to changes in diet and lifestyle may be involved in the increased incidence of colorectal cancer in Japan, the molecular mechanism has not yet been fully elucidated. The main objective of this study is to elucidate the changes in the intestinal environment that cause colorectal tumors, and also to contribute to the establishment of colorectal mucosal tissue banking in Japan.

  The project is focused on the axonal forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. We have selected 13 families (7 from Spain and 6 from Czech Republic) that have been indepth clinically assessed and previously tested for mutations in known CMT genes without causal variants characterised. In these patients we expect to discover several CMT2 genes. Thus, we requested for exome sequencing of 45 DNAs:27 exomes in families from Spain and 18 exomes in the families from Czech Republic.   The Isala Citizen Science Project, is named after the first female doctor in Belgium, Isala Van Diest (1842-1916). In a co-creative way, volunteers provided samples and data, proposed research objectives and survey questions, and helped to disseminate and interpret the objectives and results through different media platforms, jointly breaking taboos on women’s and vaginal health. In Flow 1, we collected a single sample from a cross-section of the population, characterized the microbiome, and associated it with data collected in questionnaires. Here, we provide extensive sample meta-data for over 3000 women who completed questionnaires on their lifestyle, diet, health, contraceptive use and environment.

• Emory University African American Vaginal, Oral, and Gut Microbiome in Pregnancy Cohort Study

  The Emory University African American Microbiome in Pregnancy Cohort Study prospectively enrolls African American women between 18-40 years of age without chronic medical conditions into a longitudinal follow-up study that involves completing microbiome sampling and data collection at two time points in pregnancy (8-14 weeks gestation and 24-30 weeks gestation). The study is investigating the role of the oral, vaginal, and gut microbiome on preterm birth and other pregnancy outcomes as well as biobehavioral factors that shape the microbiome among this socio-demographically diverse group of women. Microbiome sampling involves the oral, vaginal, and gut sites. Biobehavioral factors that are being explored for their association with microbiome composition at the three body sites include measures of sociodemographic status as well as diet and nutrition, infectious and stress exposures.
