  Ameloblastoma (AB) is an odontogenic tumor that is locally destructive to the jaw bone. Treatment entails surgical resection, but AB often recurs locally. Genetic background is one of the predisposing risk factors causing differential outcomes of trauma exposure. The hypothesis of this study is that dysregulated macrophage activation is a key feature leading to inflammation-mediated development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants. Cord blood samples of preterm infants (n=14) and term infants (n=19) as well as peripheral blood from healthy adults (n=17) were collected. Age-dependent differences in immune responses of monocyte-derived MФ from preterm infants were characterized and compared to term infants and adults after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure.

• Identification_of_drug_resistance_genes_in_melanoma

  Our aim is to analyze the genome of human melanoma cell lines and short term culture from human melanoma samples in order to identify genes that confer drug resistance to clinically relevant targeted therapies. We will perform whole-exome sequencing, copy number variation analysis and methylome analysis in a collection of human melanoma cell lines and short term culture that will be then screened for drug sensitivity/resistance through a library of clinically relevant drugs and drug combinations. By the combined analysis of the genomic lesion and the drug sensitivity/resistance profile of different cell lines, we will look for genes whose mutation is associated to the sensitivity or resistance to a specific drug in different samples.

• Genomic and transcriptomic analysis of thymic epithelial tumors

  Thymic epithelial tumors (TETs), comprising various histologic types of thymomas and thymic carcinomas, originate from thymic epithelial cells. Each histologic type is typically associated with a distinct immune cell composition and clinical manifestation. A better understanding of the cellular origins and molecular pathways underlying this heterogeneity is needed to improve patient stratification and treatment. Here, we conducted an integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis of 124 thymomas and 13 thymic carcinomas, including 20 newly sequenced cases combined with 117 cases from publicly available datasets. This approach stratified TETs into three subgroups with different possible origins: GTF2I-mutant (GTF2I-type) thymomas, copy number-altered (CN-type) thymomas, and thymic carcinomas.
