  The Finrisk sample sets are part of the National FINRISK Study. It is a large population survey on risk factors of chronic, noncommunicable diseases. The survey is carried out since 1972 every five years using independent, random and representative population samples from different parts of Finland. The main results from the previous FINRISK 2007 survey are published.The National FINRISK Study Survey was carried out in 5 areas in Finland and 2000 inhabitants aged 25-75 years were invited to participate in each year. Among findings were that Finns continue to gain weight.Data from FINRISK surveys are used for many different research projects and for national health monitoring needs. • Urothelial Cancer - Genomic Analysis to Improve Patient Outcomes and Research (UC-GENOME): a Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN)-Led Collaborative Research Pilot Study - for Samples Collected at Johns Hopkins

  UC-GENOME is a real-world cohort of patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC). The study consisted of two co-equal aims: 1) to provide targeted DNA sequencing for clinical decision making at no cost to patients; and 2) to create a resource for collaborative translational science including a clinically annotated biobank. The submitted data represents the foundational analysis of 218 patients accrued at 7 academic medical centers. The analysis includes 176 patients with both targeted DNA sequencing and RNA sequencing.   The purpose of this study is to provide a reference profile of small extracellular RNAs in body fluids. These samples were originally obtained in a study that had a different purpose. The purpose of the original study was to establish a data and biological specimen repository to advance future research into male reproductive health and urologic health. Semen from semen analyses, as part of standard of care at the Center for Reproductive Health, was collected and stored in a tissue bank for future research purposes. These samples and associated clinical data (including age, race, education level, medical history and diet, environmental exposures and laboratory values, fertility diagnosis and infertility treatments) will help researchers understand any urological disorders and male reproductive health issues.

• Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study

  The Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS), a multidisciplinary and large prospective cohort study in Araihazar, Bangladesh, was established to evaluate the effects of full-dose range arsenic (As) exposure on various health outcomes. We applied array-based genotyping technologies to baseline DNA samples from a subset of the HEALS study and linked those genotypes to data on arsenic species measured in urine. We used these data to identify regions influencing arsenic metabolism (AS3MT and FTCD). We also applied array-based DNA methylation technologies to baseline DNA samples from a subset of individuals from HEALS. These data were linked to data on arsenic concentration (in both urine and drinking water) to identify regions of the genome where DNA methylation is impacted by arsenic exposure.

  The Greek Metabolic (GM) adipose study was carried out in 106 individuals living in Greece and consists of genotyping data (chip), RNA-Seq and ATAC-Seq (for a subset of individuals) data from paired biopsies of Subcutaneous and Visceral adipose tissue. eQTL mapping was performed to study gene regulation and findings compared to those from adipose tissue GTEX data. The focus of this project was to study an underexplored population living in different environmental conditions in order to reveal novel regulatory effects for genes that shape complex traits and disease risk. Our results highlight the utility of modest-sized studies in adding to our understanding of the molecular basis of complex traits and to the identification of mechanisms that drive disease in specific tissues.

• A Prospective Natural History Study of Diagnosis, Treatment and Outcomes of Children with SCID Disorders

  Individuals with a recent or new diagnosis of severe combined immune deficiency (including infants who were identified by newborn screening) may be eligible to be enrolled on the PIDTC research study 6901. Speak to your doctor to determine if you or your child may be eligible. Protocol 6901 follows patients with SCID prospectively, meaning the 6901 study enrolls participants where there is a plan to receive a blood and marrow transplant, enzyme therapy, or gene therapy in the future. Patients are then followed according to a schedule set out by the study protocol after the procedure. The times the study requests follow up will be the same as when your doctor would want to be seeing you or your child as part of their regular ongoing medical care. Patients with "leaky SCID", reticular dysgenesis, and Omenn syndrome may also be eligible to participate in 6901. The 6901 research study does NOT dictate how your or your child's doctors should treat you or your child, as the PIDTC recognizes that there are many complex factors that go into this decision. The decision about how you or your child with SCID will be treated is made by your doctor. The 6901 study simply follows how you or your child do over time. There are no experimental therapies on this study. The 6901 study has been open since August 2010, and continues to be open and enrolling patients to the present day. The study plans to enroll approximately 250 patients with SCID. By studying new patients undergoing treatment for SCID, the goal is to learn more about: (1) outcomes from the treatment of SCID in the modern era of medicine, (2) what factors lead to the best long-term outcomes, such as best donor, conditioning regimen, timing of transplant, etc. and (3) what impact newborn screening and the early diagnosis of SCID has had on the long-term outcomes following BMT or gene therapy. A significant amount of information is also being gathered on how and when the immune system recovers after BMT, quality of life for long-term survivors, and about whether children develop normally after treatment. The 6901 study is the largest coordinated prospective study of patients with SCID ever performed. Information that we will learn, both now and in the future, will help doctors and other health professionals to better treat children with SCID. All hospitals within the PIDTC are enrolling patients with SCID on 6901, ensuring that the outcomes are reflective of what happens in the "real world" as opposed to at just one or two large centers.

• Natural History and Structural Functional Relationships in Fabry Renal Disease

  Fabry disease is a rare genetic disease with deficient activity of an enzyme, which leads to accumulation of inclusions in different organs including kidney, heart and vessels. The purpose of the study is to conduct a cross-sectional investigation of the natural history of Fabry renal disease and measure renal function and renal structure in male and female Fabry's patients. The study will utilize the resultant cross-sectional information to determine the renal structural parameters or composite of parameters that most closely relates to the onset and progression of clinical renal disease in Fabry patients. This is an observational, cross-sectional study of 60 individuals with Fabry disease. Those participating in the study will be evaluated during a one day visit and on a PRN basis. The primary study objectives are as follows: To study the natural history of Fabry renal disease and measure renal function and renal structure in male and female Fabry's patients. These patients would encompass the broad age range from childhood to adulthood and from normal renal function to moderate renal insufficiency [serum creatinine (SCr) ≤ 2.5mg/dl (chronic kidney disease or CKD3)]. To utilize the resultant cross-sectional information to determine the renal structural parameters or composite of parameters that most closely relates to the onset and progression of clinical renal disease in Fabry patients.

• GWAS in African Americans, Latinos and Japanese

  The Multiethnic Cohort Study is a population-based prospective cohort study (n=215,251) that was initiated between 1993 and 1996 and includes subjects from various ethnic groups - African Americans and Latinos primarily from Californian (great Los Angeles area) and Native Hawaiians, Japanese-Americans, and European Americans primarily from Hawaii. State drivers' license files were the primary sources used to identify study subjects in Hawaii and California. Additionally, in Hawaii, state voter's registration files were used, and, in California, Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) files were used to identify additional African American study subjects. In the cohort, incident cancer cases are identified annually through cohort linkage to population-based cancer Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registries in Hawaii and Los Angeles County as well as to the California State cancer registry. Information on estrogen receptor status is also obtained through these registries. Blood sample collection in the MEC began in 1994 and targeted incident breast cancer cases and a random sample of study participants to serve as controls for genetic analyses. Subjects are frequency matched on age at blood draw and ethnicity. The following number of breast cancer cases and controls were genome-wide scanned as part of this study: African Americans, 473 cases and 464 controls; Japanese: 885 cases and 822 controls; Latinos, 520 cases and 544 controls.

  The Hispanic Community Health Study / Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) is a multi-center epidemiologic study in Hispanic/Latino populations to determine the role of acculturation in the prevalence and development of disease, and to identify risk factors playing a protective or harmful role in Hispanics/Latinos. The study is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and six other institutes, centers, and offices of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goals of the HCHS/SOL include studying the prevalence and development of disease in Hispanics/Latinos, including the role of acculturation, and identifying disease risk factors that play protective or harmful roles in Hispanics/Latinos. A total of 16,415 persons of Cuban, Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Central American, and South American backgrounds were recruited through four Field Centers affiliated with San Diego State University, Northwestern University in Chicago, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx area of New York, and the University of Miami. Seven additional academic centers serve as scientific and logistical support centers. Study participants aged 18-74 years took part in an extensive clinic exam and assessments to ascertain socio-demographic, cultural, environmental and biomedical characteristics.
