  Schizophrenia (SZ) is a devastating psychiatric disorder with substantial global clinical and economic implications. While SZ is marked by high heritability, discovery of common variants associated with even moderate risk for SZ has proven difficult. We used Restriction Enzyme Based Enriched L1 sequencing (REBELseq) to amplify L1 retrotransposons in gDNA isolated from dorsolateral prefrontal cortex NeuN+ neuronal nuclei from 63 SZ cases and 63 controls. Amplified libraries were sequenced on the Illumina HiSeq 4000 platform, and sequencing data was analyzed with the REBELseq bioinformatics pipeline.

  Based on whole genome bisulfite sequencing of five human monocytes from unrelated individuals, we have identified regions of common inter-individual DNA methylation differences, where methylation is inversely correlated with active histone marks, but not with the expression of the associated genes.   The aim of this work is to apply an integrated systems approach to understand the biological underpinnings of hip osteoarthritis that culminates in the need for total joint replacement (TJR).
